ONGOING: Bodymind Healing Qigong Classes (9:30AM - 11:30AM)

Classes Now Held in the Woodlands of Orinda

Saturdays 9:30-11:30 a.m.

$75.00 per month or $20.00 for single classes.
Classes are ongoing and beginners are welcome.

For more information call: (925) 254-6616

In this ongoing Qigong/Tai Chi class you'll be initiated into the ten system integrated Bodymind Healing Qigong system that Michael synthesized from thirty years of training with some of the world's most respected masters of Tai Chi and Qigong.

These ten systems include:

Set 1: Raising & Lowering Qi with Heavenly Palms
Set 2: Tai Chi Ruler
Set 3: Standing Meditation: Wuji and Yi Chuan Qigong
Set 4: Exercises after Standing to Disperse Stagnant Chi
Set 5: Ancient Taoist Healing the Internal Organ Exercises
Set 6: Boddhidharma's changing muscles, sinews & bone marrow
Set 7: Ancient Animal Qigong
Set 8: Spiritual Qigong Practices
Set 9: Walking Meditation
Set 10: Yang Style Taiji Chuan

Over time students can choose which elements of the practice are most important to their lives. For example, if you'd like to focus on Tai Chi, you can learn the tradtional 108 movement, long form of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan, along with various two person (push hands) practices. You'll learn how every Tai Chi movement has four levels of pupose: self healing, spiritual unfoldment, self defense, and changing your life stance. This perspective is discussed in Michael's book (Secrets to Living Younger Longer: The Self-healing path of Qigong, Standing Meditation and Tai Chi) where the theory is put forth that Tai Chi/Qigong stems from a long lost lineage where these four dimensions were an integrated part of the practice. If you'd like to focus on medical Qigong, Michael teaches various dimensions of these practices including the five animal forms of medical Qigong.

Directions: From the Orinda Exit on Highway 24 go west on Camino Pablo, go 3 lights and on your left you'll see El Toyonal Street ( the sign on the right side says Orinda Way)turn left on El Toyonal, go up 3/10's of a mile where the road splits go straight on Loma Vista, go up 2 blocks and turn left on La Bolsita Way. Go to end of block and park in driveway. #11 la Bolsita, Orinda, 94563.

Michael Mayer , Ph. D., has been practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong for over 30 years in addition to being a Psychologist in private practice. Dr. Mayer has presented his integrated system of bodymind healing, at many hospitals and at universities, conferences and workshops. He was a keynote speaker for the National Qigong Association, and is the author of 12 publications on bodymind healing.

Michael's background in Tai Chi and Qigong includes training for over three decades in the internal martial arts at the Integral Chuan Institute with grandmaster Fong Ha where he learned Taiji Quan, Xing Yi Chuan, and Yi Chuan. Some of this training includes Taiji, sword, saber and staff, the 108 movement long form of Taiji Quan right and left sides, eight systems linking form of Taiji push hands, and the long form of San Shau. Sifu Ha trained with Tung Ying Chieh (first generation disciple of Yang Chengfu) and Yang Shouchung (a lineage holder of the Yang style). Michael trained in Yi Chuan with Sifu Ha and grandmasters Han Xingyuan (a first generation disciple of Wang Xiangzhai), and Sam Tam (Eagle Claw, Yi Chuan and Taiji Quan grandmaster). He studied Wuji Standing Meditation with grandmaster Cai Sungfang. He has also trained with many other masters of medical Qigong such as Dr. Alex Feng in the Five Animal Forms of Hua Tau. And Michael has been a colleague/friend of Taoist scholar Ken Cohen where many traditions have been mutually exchanged; for example, Michael was the first person to teach Ken the Yi Chuan Standing and Walking Meditation Qigong. Michael was chosen to do a Master level workshop at the Eleventh World Qigong Congress in San Francisco (2008). He received a certification in Chinese Health Arts from the Acupressure Institute of Berkeley. For many years he has offered his Qigong workshops at world-renowned Esalen Institute; and he has certification programs which include Bodymind Healing Qigong for Qigong practitioners/teachers, and a Bodymind Health Practitioner's Certification Program for health professionals.

Bodymind Healing and Qigong: The Self Healing Path
All Day Workshop :Friday August 8, 2008,9-4:30 PM

Become initiated into the thesis of Dr. Michael Mayer's book: Tai Chi and Qigong are initiatory traditions stemming from a long-lost lineage that includes self-healing, spiritual unfoldment, self-defense, and changing your life-stance. You'll learn self-healing practices from the ten-system integrative method, Bodymind Healing Qigong, that Dr. Mayer synthesized over 30 years of training with some of the most respected Tai Chi/Qigong masters. Drawing from his two books on the integration of Qigong and Western mind-body healing methods, Dr Mayer will present a blend of anthropological research, case examples from his work in an integrative medical clinic, and stories from ancient, sacred wisdom-traditions. You'll discover ways to work with common ailments-insomnia, anxiety, hypertension, chronic pain- as part of your lifetime preventative medicine program.

 Workshop #2

Sunday August 3, 2008
